How to Repair a Damaged Wing Tip

Crushed wing tip due to "cartwheel"


Damage exposed by removing covering

After sanding down end of leading edge
a small balsa strip was added to increase
surface area for repair


A small piece of balsa stock
shaped to replace broken
leading edge.

Leading edge replacement in place
with CA. Notice wing spar pulled away
from wing tip.

All damaged balsa CA'd
back in place

Area for missing front
rib is sanded smooth

The wing tip front rib
is roughly drawn and cut

Front rib CA'd place

Balsa sheeting used to fill in
front wing tip area. Notice that
it was notched to increase strength

Area next to wing tip is
sheeted, filled and sanded
to shape.

Completed repair with yellow
ultra coat.  Heat gun was used
to "pull" covering over wing tip
edge.
